Vacay Season - Day 372

G baby,

Back at you in very quick order. Birthday last weekend, and now we're at the beach. Still can't get over how much you've seen and done in this, my first blinkyear. Yes, I just coined that term myself. Think of the phrase blink and you'll miss it. That has been what this first year of your life has been like. We're moving at the speed of light, g.

Let's start with how you have clearly supplant me in the heart of MY grandmother on this trip. I'm sure now that Granny A loves you just as much if not more than me, her self-proclaimed favorite grandchild. Not only did she make the trip to Myrtle Beach for you, but she got out in the sand with you as well. She's as young as ever. She may not run you over during a baseball game (shout-out your cousin Big Al), but she'll still teach you how to bake and play cards.

“Nope, not today ocean.”

While at the beach, we learned you are a bit distrustful of the ocean. The way it came and went as it pleased seemed to bother you. You literally would not take your eyes off the waves as they rolled in. And this wasn't an amazed look, more like "nah, something fishy is going on here". Couple that with the fact that you've been terrified of aquariums ever since, and your water adventure outlook seems pretty bleak. Here's to hoping you grow out of that. It would be awesome to be able to say "it was a phase" in the near future. The beach is one of Daddy’s favorite places, and i want to be able to share that with you. Fingers crossed.

Thank goodness you embraced the pool water though. You were splishing and splashing to your hearts delight. You genuinely enjoyed being in the water, even when you splashed yourself in the face. That's what gives me the hope that you can at least be converted to a water baby like your mother and I since you clearly weren't born one. This trip certainly won't be the last time we head to the beach. We're going whether you like it or not, and it's much more enjoyable if you're not the kid in jeans and sneakers laying on a towel with a barely charged electronic device. I'm just saying.

Travelling is one of our family institutions. Your mother and I are not the type to sit still very long. Sooner than I believe we realize, you and the new baby will be on trips with us. You've already seen a few yourself, but they get even better. Whether on the road or via the skies, the world is our playground. Play hard or stay home. I love you.
