Mother's Day - Day 345

Lowercase g,

Today we're going to talk about women. This isn't the birds and the bees quite yet. We'll get to that later. No, today, I will tell you about women as cohabitants of the world in which we live. They are absolutely amazing beings. One of the more astounding things about women is that they have birthed EVERY man since the beginning of time. That means you, me, the entire Atlanta Falcons football team and coaching staff, Barack Obama, and even The Rock all came from a woman, from a mommy. The label of mother is an honor we men can never carry.

You happened to hit the lotto on the mother draft. Mommy is one of a kind. She had such a large capacity for love before you even arrived, but now words cannot express how much love she has to give. You, my friend, receive it in abundance. You're Mommy's sonshine, always will be. So as you grow older, remember that and return that love (and respect!) at every opportunity. Or I will put these paws on you.

Today is Mother’s Day. I don't know how big a holiday it is internationally, but here in the States, it's a pretty big deal. It's a much bigger deal than Father's Day, but I'm okay with that. Not a dig at Dads; I know many fathers (myself included) are heavily involved in the day to day child rearing. However, mothers do some heavy lifting. Last Mother's Day, you were still living in your mother's stomach. She had been forming you cell by cell for 9 months. You owe her (and obviously the Lord) for everything from the toes on your feet to the hair on your head (I helped with the hair).

It's for their hard work that we celebrate mother's the way we do with lavish gifts and experiences. We took your mother, her mother (Lala), and her grandmother (Nana) to a Hibachi dinner. Side note: The chefs always start the meal prep with a big flame. You were NOT a fan of this and made this petrified face that Mommy happened to catch on camera.

The family actually had quite the laugh at your expense. Anyway, we gathered and ate to celebrate them. It was also an opportunity for Nana to feed you. She can’t get enough of that, and I’m a bit jealous as she used to cook and get excited about me eating. Lala may have been a bit jealous as well as she sat a full 3 seats away from you. After a good dinner, we went to visit my mother (Mimi). We have to spend time with her at the Y for now, but I suspect a wonderful change down the road for Mimi. She’s the hardest working mother you’ll ever meet. After some hugs and kisses, we headed home to relax with our #1, but never forget the mothers that made you possible.

Cherish your mother everyday! Cherish your grandmothers and great grandmothers (Granny A is coming to see you for your birthday) and aunts and great aunts EVERYDAY. They love you more than you may ever realize. They will take care of you even when it's actually your turn to take care of them, and I know you will do so willingly because you have their love inside of you. Lastly, shout-out to all the dope women in the world, both mothers and non-mothers. Sadly, we live in a society where the ladies often don't get the respect or appreciation they're due. However, men like us should do whatever we can to help game recognize game. Not that women need our help, NEVER say they need our help son. Lesson for another day. 😉

Love you,

Daddy
