“That round area above mommy’s hand…Yep,that’s you!”
Grayson J,
I want to start by saying how much I love you already. Knowing I had a hand (well not exactly a hand, but I'll spare you the details) in bringing a life, your life, into the world truly amazes me. You're a miracle from the Lord, a gift your mother and I could never have earned. That's why we named you Grayson (Son of Grace).
I have never put any deep consideration into being a father. I mean, I had a desire to have a child "someday", but now that you're almost here, the reality of your impending arrival seems so surreal. It feels as if just yesterday I was dreaming up some new adventure, searching for the next experience I had yet to explore. Now, I have the biggest adventure ever mere days away. I'll be honest. From a knowledge standpoint, I am embarrassingly unprepared. Believe it or not, you'll produce the first dirty diaper I will EVER change. I don't currently know what to do when you're upset and crying. I don't know how to feed you. But I feel confident adding a YET to the end of each knowledge gap I am aware of. The list is aplenty.
I'm not afraid, only a little nervous. I'm more excited than anything. Though I would ask that you give your mother and I a heads up well before your big entrance. We have an opening in our schedule from next Wednesday, the 30th. Try to make that happen. The anticipation grows by the hour at this point, but we'll wait until your ready.
So just a little bit about us, your mother's name is Brittany, but the kids call her Bebe. I can honestly say I hit the jackpot with your mother. She is truly a Godsend! She has this dope personality that I know you'll love as much as I do. And her heart, oh my goodness, her heart could bring about world peace if I didn't require it spend so much time on me. You're lucky you're my son; I don't share very often, but I'll make an exception for you. She's beautiful, intelligent, and more resourceful than anyone I know. However, fair warning, she will talk about you when you produce unpleasant smells (speaking from experience). She also has no regard for refrigerator etiquette, but she's simply a product of her environment. She is absolutely going to love you to pieces.
You have a fur-brother named Bentley. He's, uh, high energy to say the least. But he loves babies and you'll quickly replace your mom and I as the apple of his eye. He will be by your side for many years to come. He has already pre-chewed one of your toys for you since you won't have teeth for some time. He's going to provide companionship and laughter for years to come.
Lastly, my name is Daddah aka Marcus. I'm not too unique if you look past my dashing good looks (you're welcome), high intelligence, and courage of a honey badger. I will be the Captain of this adventure the old people call parenting. I am a diver in every aspect of the word. Sky, scuba, you name it. There is so much we have to do and talk about. I am a well of wisdom waiting to be tapped by your baby mind. The world awaits big fella. It will be yours for the taking. We have yet to meet, but I already know we’ll be best friends. See you soon.
Love,
Daddah
